 The Science and Technology Division of Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) had set up 219 Block Level Science Resource Centres in the name and style of Aryabhatta Science Centres in each administrative block of the State of Assam. The project is supported by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Assam. The first batch of the Centres was launched on the occasion of the National Science Day i.e. on the 28th February, 2008 by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Assam.

Aryabhatta Science Centre is a centre based forum which provides facilities for practicing activity based learning processes. Aryabhatta Science Centre helps to inculcate the spirit of enquiry, foster creative talent and generate scientific temper among the school students in the State, to make the science education exciting through experimentation and other hands on activities to promote basic science as a career.

The basic objectives of each centre are:                                                                                                                                                           a). To built scientific attitude among the school students, b ). To make science education exciting through experimentation and other hands-on activities and  c). To promote basic science as a career through organizing year-long programmes every year, such as Science Activity Camps, Scientific Competitions, Science Model Making, and Children’s Science Congress etc. in respective blocks.

 Every year ASTEC will organize State Level Activities/ Competitions with participation of all the Block Level Science Centres. More than 219 Students, one from each Science Centres, each year would be taken a study tour to renowned scientific institutions within the country.
